DEFENCE MINISTER BADARU ABUBAKAR EULOGISES TROOPS OF OP HADIN KAI FOR THEIR EFFORT TOWARDS ENDING TERRORISM

The Honourable Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has eulogized the troops of Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI for their commitment and effort towards ensuring that peace is fully restored in North East Nigeria.
The Minister gave the commendation on Tuesday 28 November 2023, while addressing troops of JTF NE Operation HADIN KAI at the 212 Battalion parade ground in Maimalari Military Cantonment Maiduguri.

The Defence minister disclosed that his visit to the frontline was in line with the directive of the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Bola Ahmed Tinubu to conduct an on the spot assessment of the challenges confronting troops in the frontline with a view to provide solutions. He assured the troops of the President's commitment towards ensuring that the welfare of troops is a topmost priority of his government.

Earlier, the Minister had paid a visit to the governor of Borno State, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum in his office where he expressed appreciation on behalf of the Federal Government for his continuous support to the Nigerian Military in their remarkable effort in the fight against the remnants of Boko Haram and their ISWAP counter parts.The Borno State Governor equally equally lauded the Federal Government for committing resources and the political will towards the restoration of peace in Borno state and the contiguous states. 

At the Headquarters Theatre Command, Defence minister was briefed on the operational activities and security situation in the North East theatre by the Theatre Commander Major General Gold Chibuisi, after which he proceeded to pay a visit to wounded in action personnel receiving treatment at the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital.

On the Defence minister's entourage were the Honourable minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar and the Chief of Defence Intelligence Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye.

Also, present during the visit were Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Services Headquarters, General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Component Commanders, Heads of Security Agencies and Paramilitary Organisations, amongst others.

TERRORISTS ON THE RUN AS TROOPS OF OPERATION HADARIN DAJI RESCUED 31 KIDNAPPED VICTIMS IN SOKOTO STATE

The resilient troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation HADARIN DAJI (OPHD) under the command of the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, Sokoto , Major General Godwin Mutkut have continued to intensify onslaught and conducts series of clearance operation to terrorists enclaves in its Areas of Operations in the North West.

In a recent clearance operation conducted by the troops of OPHD on 21 November 2023 at Tangaza LGA of Sokoto state , cleared Alya Fulani village, Buani forest, where 30 kidnapped persons were rescued. 

All the discovered terrorists hideouts were destroyed as the terrorists abandoned their captives and fled from their camps before the arrival of the aggressive troops.

The troops also proceeded to Goboro village where one Female kidnapped victim was rescued as the terrorists/bandits fled in disarray due to troops' fire power superiority.

COAS COMMISERATES WITH LATE GENERAL KALE's FAMILY... Says it is a great loss to Nigerian Army, Military

The Nigerian Army has received with  heavy heart, but in absolute submission to the divine will of Almighty God,  the news of the passing to glory of Major General Aderonke Kale rtd CFR mni, on  Wednesday 8 November 2023. The shining Veteran of the Nigerian Army exuded unequalled commitment, diligence and unquestionable loyalty which paved the way, as she steadily rose through the ranks to become the first female officer of the Nigerian Army to attain the enviable height of Major General. 

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant  General Taoreed Lagbaja, while expressing his commiserations on behalf of Officers, Soldiers and Civilian staff of the Nigerian Army, to the family, relations and friends of the deceased Senior Officer, described her demise as a great loss to the Nigerian Army and the military community as a whole. He added, that her legacies in the selfless service to Nigeria and humanity will remain indelible in the hearts of many.  Gen Lagbaja prayed for the repose of her soul and the fortitude for the family to bear the irreplaceable loss.

General Aderonke Kale, renowned for reshaping the face of women and gender mainstreaming  in the Nigerian military, was born into a family of professionals, her father was a pharmacist, and her mother a teacher. She has her primary education in Lagos and Zaria, and had her post primary education in St. Anne’s School, Ibadan and Abeokuta Grammar School respectively. She opted to study Medicine and  successfully gained admission into the University College, which later became University of Ibadan. After her graduation as a medical doctor, she proceeded to the University of London to specialize in Psychiatry. 

General Kale worked briefly in Britain and returned to Nigeria in the year 1971 to join the Nigerian Army in 1972. Her competence as a psychiatrist was recognized in 1973, when she qualified as a Consultant Psychiatrist and in 1982 she became Chief Consultant. In the course of her service from 1980 to 1985 her management acumen came to bear in her career, when she became the Commanding Officer of the Military Hospital Ibadan. She thus had the distinction of being the first woman to command a military hospital in Nigeria. In 1985 to 1987, she performed the same feat in the Military Hospital, Enugu, and from 1989 to 1990 in the Military Hospital, Benin. With such vital experience, she was elevated to the position of Deputy Commandant, Nigerian Army Medical Corps and School in 1991 till 1994. 

In 1994, she became the first female officer to be promoted to the rank of Major General in the Nigerian Army and the West African subregion. She finally attained the peak of her career, when she became the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps. First time in the history of the Nigerian Army, that a female officer was entrusted with the crucial responsibility of health care for all Nigerian Army personnel and their families.

CDS COMMISSIONS MULTIPLE PROJECTS IN 6 DIVISION, REASSURES NIGERIANS OF STABLE DEMOCRACY

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa has commissioned multiple projects in 6 Division, where he reassured Nigerians of a stable democracy. He gave the assurance at 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt Barracks, during his maiden operational visit to the Division's Area of Responsibility.

General Musa  reiterated that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria, despite so many challenges facing the nation. He assured that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) will ensure democracy survives.

The CDS, in a brief interview with journalists, stated that the AFN will continue to protect the nation's democracy, considering the level of dedication and commitment it has shown. He enjoined Nigerians not to entertain any fear,  having had a couple of coups in some of the neighboring countries, he said there is no cause for alarm.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his unwavering support to the AFN. He further added that the President has approved funds for enablers to be procured to ensure that illegal oil theft activities and all other criminal acts are curbed.

General Musa appreciated the officers and men of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, for a job well done and challenged them to do more in the fight against all illegalities in the Niger Delta region. He  stressed that their  efforts have led to a tremendous increase in oil production. He further appealed to criminals to desist from the dastardly acts.  

The projects commissioned include 46 Engineer Brigade Counter Improvise Explosive Device Squadron  office complex, vehicles motorbikes and equipment, newly constructed Corporal and Below quarters for 26 Support Engineer Regiment, 29 Battalion Magazine, as well as tree planting and unaveiling of a street named after General CG Musa. 

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army/ Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam briefed the CDS on operational activities of the Division at the Division's Headquarters. The brief was preceded by an interactive session between the CDS and officers. 

Highpoint of the visit was signing of Visitor's register, presentation of souvenirs and group photograph.
